Amanda McCoy '23 Recruiting Profile

Running at a collegiate level has always been a goal of mine since I started running competitively in 7th grade. I have always been a pretty natural distance runner, but freshman year I had amazing coaches that helped me figure out my strengths and weaknesses as a student athlete. From there I have discovered that I am my biggest obstacle. Just believing in myself is the current wall I am facing.

From a young age I have had to learn the hard lesson of perseverance because my dad is in the army and we moved pretty much every year. I have been all over the Mainland US and now we are stationed on O'ahu Hawai'i. I am fortunate enough to have people around me to teach me about the Hawaiian culture in its true form. Here, I am the girls cross country captain and track captain in distance as a sophomore. Our team is small but pushing each other and supporting each other keep us tight and keep us all at the top of our game. My freshman year was in Colorado where I really established myself in Cross country and track. The only freshman on our Varsity team in one of the most competitive states is a pretty big accomplishment. 

Now going into my junior year with a lot of experience under my belt I am prepared to meet this Cross country, track, and swim season with the most grit and determination I have ever felt. Along with the athletic determination I am also academically just as strong. I am one of 2 students in my grade graduating our junior year and because of this I am losing an entire highschool year to hone in on my training. Don't think that will stop me from being prepared to compete at a collegiate level at 16.
