Hi! I am Ava Jarrell and I am a sophomore Pendleton Heights High School. I run both cross country and track. I started running track my sixth grade year as a sprinter. After being a sprinter for that season, I decided to try out cross country and I loved it. Ever since I joined the cross country team in seventh grade, I transitioned to mid-distance/distance running in track as well. Now in high school, I run for the varsity cross country and track team. In track, I run the 1600, 800, 4x400, 4x800, and occasionally the open 400. The 1600 and 800 are both my main events. I am a very dedicated and driven athlete. I love challenging myself in practice and in races. I push myself to work hard so I can get faster and run at a higher competitive level. Not only do I like the individual aspect of running, but I also love the team aspect. My teammates are some of my best friends, and we are all very supportive and encouraging to each other. We always have a great time at practice and being around them is my favorite part of my day. I have also met some amazing people that I have competed against that also help me to run better. Running has really surrounded my life, and I am constantly thinking about what I can do in practice or on my own that will help me do better when it comes to racing. On the academic side of things, doing these sports have pushed me to do well in school. I am a consistent A/B student and have a 3.367 GPA. Overall, running has really changed my life and I am so grateful for all the opportunities and friendships that have come with it.
