Jaecy Nelson '22 Recruiting Profile

My name is Jaecy Nelson, I am a student-athlete at Portage High School in Portage, Indiana for the class of 2022. I am a two sport athlete, participating in Basketball and Track and Field. 

As a freshman I won the GSSC T&F in both the Shot Put and Discus, and qualified for State as the only freshman in Indiana to do so. I finished 13th in the state in the Shot Put for the IHSAA State Championship.  

Like most states, Indiana did not have a Track and Field season my Sophomore year due to Covid-19. 

My Junior year I qualified for state in both Shot Put and Discus. My goal for my Senior year is to finish in the top 10 or better in the outdoor state finals in both shot and discus.  At the Hoosier State Relays Indoor meet I finished 4th in the state with a new shot put PR of 41’2” on Saturday, 3/26/22. In the discus my PR is 122’11”; this was thrown at Illiana Christian during the Spring of 2021 outdoor season.

My technical goals for my senior season include improving my rotational speed with the discus and continuing to develop a dynamic start for the shot put. 

My mother and father are both coaches and were athletes. My mom Kari Nelson was a D - 1 Softball Player at Valparaiso University, earned All-Conference honors multiple years, and was nominated to their Athletic Hall of Fame.
