Personal Statement
2017 was the first year I took part in athletics, and I came in 1st place in both 100m and 200m sprints, 2nd place in high jump, and 3rd place in both long jump and triple jump, all in the U19 category in the inter-house competition. I was then selected to participate on inter-schools level in the same events and was elected as the Open Victrix Ludorum (Best Overall U19 Female Athlete). I even went on to be awarded as the Best U19 Female Athlete of 2017 (being co-captain in all my participated tournaments) and the Best U19 Netball Player of 2017, as well an award for Academic Diligence as a representation of my hard work and overall consistency in my academics throughout the year. I was also top of my academic class overall in 2016, with the best in English, English Literature, Geography and Business Studies, as well as a school prefect who showcased tremendous leadership qualities in the school. An enhancement to my academic development would enable me to acquire my long-life goal of attaining a well-earned profession as a medical doctor. But personally, I would be able to share my knowledge with my fellow Africans who are in desperate need of a pioneer to help shape Africa into a more healthy and promising continent and therefore, make a vital difference. A man is not an island unto himself, so of course I am aware that such a dream cannot be achieved alone. I hope to at least act like a catalyst to speed up this reaction and instill the same mentality that I possess amongst other young adults that have the potential to positively contribute to other nations worldwide. Due to my interest in sporting and cultural activities such as debating, I hope to contribute my personal ideas on helping to address the general and global health issues that we face on a daily basis, as well as establish new ways on how to overcome these suppressing issues in order to catalyse a pragmatic change in the African community. In terms of the sporting aspect, I wish to share my expertise with the eager youth and elders in the community, in order to promote a society of active and zestful individuals. This is because an active community can help build a healthy body as well as a healthy mind amongst individuals, which can be the foundation of establishing healthy nations. I understand that change is a long and gradual process, but every slight action has a major reaction. My ultimate goal is to take one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
