Personal Statement
My name is Xanté de Klerk, I am 18 years old from South Africa. I compete in a variety of events, like 100m (12.53), 200m (25.73), 400m (56.93), 800m (2;20) and 400m-hurdles. I have the stamina and the speed to compete in those event, although I believe I have not reached my full potential and that I will reach even greater heights in the upcoming years.
I am now in my last year of school, proudly being deputy head girl of Helpmekaar College. While working hard on the track, I still receive a 85%+ average academically and I am part of the public speaking team. This year I am completing my B1 DELF French exam. I am also captain my schools' athletics team, managing over 70 high school athletes(all ages and both genders) and lead us to overall team victory in the three most prestigious track events my country has to offer, namely: Top 10(86 schools), Top 15(43 schools) and Super 16 (Group A - 8 best Track schools). I did all this while being in boarding school, away from my parents.
I received honours for: athletics (for competing from 2015 till present at the South African national championships where I have received 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bonze), hockey (being part of the Southerns hockey team whom ended second nationally) and also netball (part of the Gauteng team and ended up winning the national tournament).
When I put my mind to a goal, I will do everything possible to achieve it, just like I want to continue now to build my future in America. I love my country South Africa, but any opportunity that can get you to better yourself is worth a chance to take. I want to study science and I am very interested in human biology. My end goal is to help other people and make a change in their lives. I cannot see myself not doing athletics.
Looking forward hearing from you
Xanté de Klerk
