Personal Statement
My name is Olivia Kwon, and I am an avid student-athlete in Brent International School Manila in the Philippines. I am in the batch of 2020, and my nationality is Korean. I am aiming to run for a school that has both strong athletics and academics programs.
I am a hard worker, but I also work smart. For example, I strive to become a better athlete every day by analyzing my training videos, watching my race videos countless times, or observing PRO athletes' races. Due to covid-19, I had to return to my home country, Korea, from the Philippines. My whole school closed down, and my visa even got canceled. This means to say my track season and cross country season were all gone. However, I did not make that an excuse not to continue training. Instead of getting discouraged with not being able to compete, I took advantage of having forcible off-season(s) to become an even better athlete I was. I reached out to a local track team and train every morning at 5:30 am with them. I broke my 1500m PR by 6 seconds and 3000m PR by 21 seconds in training.
I am resilient, and I am a goal-driven student, too. I am a straight-A student and was and am on the honor's list throughout my HS career. I plan to major in the mathematics .
I am looking forward to hearing more about a team where there is a strong athletics and academics program!
