- 2022 Highlights
Personal Statement
My name is Rafaela Delgado. I am 17 years old, and I am a triple jumper. I train at the best sports club in Lima (Club Regatas Lima) 4 years ago and there is nothing that I enjoy more. I train from Monday to Saturday 4 hours daily which are normally spliced into 3 hours of track and 1 hour of gym.
Sport has always been present in my life. Since very young, (age 3) I have always practiced sports in a professional way; either representing my school or representing my club. Throughout my life I have competed in swimming when little, gymnastics, basketball, tennis, and currently, track. I have represented my school track team in ADCA. ADCA (association of private schools present in cultural associations) is an event that takes place every year in where more than 600 athletes are presented to represent their school. In this event, I have obtained gold medals in triple jump, long jump, 400 meters, and broken ADCA record for the medley relay. Because of these achievements, my school was awarded as the best track team in the event.
Lately, both my trainer and I have been seeing significant improvements in my progress as my technique improves. I am motivated to be the best version of myself possible and reach as far as I can. I dream of having the possibility of continuing my trainings in the USA as I am sure that it is here where I will receive the greatest number of possibilities due to the infrastructure and the coaches.
I have been successful inside of my country, yet I dream of becoming successful in my event on another level. I dream of winning bigger events such as Pan-American games. I dream of my name being lighted up on the track and being called out in the stadium while seeing everyone around me cheering and clapping with my presence. I dream of carrying my country’s flag on my back while celebrating my successes, and I am sure that this will be possible if I continue training under the same passion and love for this sport.
If I were given the possibility of forming part of your educational institution, not only I would train as hard as possible to utmost the athletics team, yet also to do this academically. Throughout my school journey, I have always been recognized as a student with a high academic achievement as I have a GPA of 4.55 over 5. I am recognized within my school for the balance that I have been able to create between school life and trainings. Besides of academics and training, my broad participation in extracurricular activities has made me develop many characteristics which I am sure that will help me thrive in the goals I propose in life.
Until the moment, I wish to pursue my studies in economics. I have decided this via the IB course that I am taking at the moment.
My current goals for the 2022 season and beyond are to improve my personal best in triple jump and continue holding my title as national champion while also putting into practice any type of advice given by my coach and peers to help me reach my goals.
