Personal Statement
I was 3 years old when my parents enrolled me in a kung-fu class,i was beaten each day by bigger and stronger boys..
Around 8 years old, i learnt to swim and quickly fell in love with the sport and water..I learnt to skate and woke up all the people around me,so that i could ride the wheels at 5AM before school. However,it was not until i was 10-12 years old when i was exposed to the competitive world of Sports.
I have been good at academics, dance, creative writing and other co-curricular activities but Sports has always been the closest to my heart.I still remember the moment vividly ,when i decided i wanted to be the Olympic Gold medalist in the track and field, with the newspaper cuttings of Usain bolt in my hand, sitting on my bed, staring at them...At the age of 12 in class 7.
My mom was an athlete herself but could'nt afford the training and facilities. I think that's the reason she showed me the opportunities of life at a young age and pushed me to be something beyond average, beyond mediocrity.
One might even assume she's living her dream through me but its actually My PASSION that we have connected to so deeply;none of us are able to let go. After a point the medals stopped coming, competition increased and people made me realize that sports is a hobby not a Proffessional career.
I started athletics in 2018. I won the state meets in mid 2019,won medals at the CBSE nationals and i made it to the 4*100 relay by the end of 2019;at national school games and we managed to win the gold medal with a meet record.
But,In 2021,i was diagnosed with Lumbar spondolysthesis ( FRACTURE IN THE LOWERBACK),I had no reason to continue with the rehab for a whole year when there is no scope for sprints in India(atleast thats what they say as of now),when my performance is not even close to the world athletes of my age,When the doctors said i could'nt hope for a future in sports because its a big risk...I WAS TOLD TO QUIT,not only by doctors but also by my loved ones-who i can always count on.
I am fortunate enough to have my family supporting me and sending me to another country. So,Despite everything that i have been through i wish to continue my career in sports and start another chapter
India has alot of raw talent, you can find many stories like mine except they end before they begin.Athletes are not guided in the right direction due to lack of knowledge,early- specalization drains young athletes and sprints is a rather untouched field with respect to encouragement and development.India is still developing over the track and field,we have really good talent but we are short of scientific knowledge, technology,Family support, Qualified Coaches and above all finance...I believe a country like US can provide me with all the necessary facilities and knowledge required to be one of the elite athletes in the world. I also plan on continuing my education in any course related to sports,or psychology as US is known to have the best universities to study whatsoever.
To sum it up all, every choice i've ever made has always been with respect to my passion to Sprint and all those choices have led me to this moment. I believe US is my next stop to level up my game and education as it has the best experienced coaches, Advanced development of the sport and has produced many of the best athletes all over the globe.I have acquired the skills of Persistence, high work ethic, discipline, patience and consistency over the years...I wish to utilize my strengths and without wasting much time, make it to the UK to begin my journey towards excellence.
