Personal Statement
Hello Coach,
I was born and raised in Seoul, Korea as an international school student. I have no boundaries as to where I could possibly attend college and I will weigh all opportunities that will come my way.
I would like to attend a college that has a knowledgeable coaching staff that will push me to perform my best in class and on the track. I am considering Division II or III. I would like to reach out and connect.
My dad is a marathon and triathlon athlete. Although my parents were both active and loved exercising, I did not, and could not possibly see myself enjoying running. However, running in cross country changed me. I was awarded MVP for Cross-Country 23-24 season.
After having a limited season due to covid, my second track season dealt with many struggles in mental battles before/during my 800M race. My challenge throughout the season was overcoming the fear I had for 800. Then this year (2024), I had a breakthrough and a blessing season. On April 6th at Humphreys Meet #5, I was able to break 800M, 1600M, and 3200M records with times of 2:34, 5:46, and 12:10. The Asia Christian Schools Conference (ACSC) is a sports tournament program between International Christian schools in Asia. In, ACSC Philippines, I broke the school and ACSC records of 800M (2:32), 1500M (5:20), 3000M (11:38), 5000M (20:33) I never imagined that it would be possible for me to get ACSC MVP Top Scorer for the meet (Scoring: 42.5 points). I was also awarded MVP for 23-24 Track season and major award: Female Athlete of the Year (23-24). My passion and goals along with hard work, and academic achievements can open so many doors for me in the future. I realized that Track is what I want to do and I don’t want to let it go after high school which is why I am looking at ways to continue further.
Respectfully,
Lydia Ro
