My first time running track was in 8th grade. I had never ran before, but when I did, I was a natural at it. I fell in love with it instantly and knew it was something I wanted to continue with. Moving from middle school track to high school track, I was placed on the varsity team as a freshman and that is what really pushed the gas for me. I knew this was a tougher ball game, but I had always thought to go big or go home! My ultimate goal was to make it to state track. When I didn’t qualify I was devastated, but looking back, I am glad I didn’t. It was difficult , but pushing through this time helped me learn my strengths and weaknesses as a person and as a competitor. This is where I developed my fighter spirit. I transferred this over to the classroom as well. I have always blossomed academically, but I want to be in an environment where I can thrive and be challenged even further. Each and everyday I strive to be the best, not only for myself but for those around me as well. I encourage and push people to give their all to everything they do because giving up is not an option for me and it shouldn’t be an option for anyone else. All of these characteristics stemmed from my experience running track. I know I will be able to develop new characteristics and skills as I continue on my journey through school and track. My ability to turn any negative to a positive is the biggest thing that will make me a great candidate to compete at any athletic and academic level. Helping others is what I want to do in life. After college I would like to continue through to law school to help even more people. Having the opportunity of being a part of something bigger than what I have here in my hometown will be a pleasure to me and a great asset to any team I am on.
