My goals and aspirations for track have changed tremendously in the last 18 months. What started as a casual school activity has turned into a crusade. I broke the school record in the 100m hurdles as a freshman, but it was purely based on athleticism instead of proper technique. My sophomore season was wiped out by COVID, but I practiced on my own, outside, the sixth months leading into my Junior season. Hurdling in 30 degree weather is cold! I also began an exercise regimen three days a week. My Junior year was a huge improvement, but was still more athleticism than technique. I also learned the triple jump the last month of the season (I had not even attempted it before that). At region, I fell in the last 10m leading the race (It was devastating), but I bounced back and finished second in triple jump and qualified for state! Shortly after that, I attended the Jud Logan Track Camp where I learned my technique was horrific. I made a conscious decision between the state tournament and camp, that not only did I want to become the best student athlete possible, but I wanted to run track at a high college level. I began attending Parisi Speed School three days a week to work on my body and form. I still practice multiple days a week outside with my Dad. I have greatly improved my technique in both the hurdles and triple jump. My 100m time has dropped by over two seconds and my distance in the triple jump is not even comparable. My Senior year of high school, my goal is to win the state title in the 100m hurdles and set the state record in triple jump. I would love to be a jumper in college. I did not understand until this year what it would take mentally, physically, and emotionally to compete at the level I desire, but I am enjoying the challenge.
