Hi, my name is Lynne Tormoehlen and I am a junior at Washington County High School. I spent my first two years (freshman and sophomore) splitting my time between softball and track in the spring. I was very disappointed this spring when coronavirus ended the spring track season. I had decided to focus on track and concentrate on increasing the distance of my shot and discus throws. My goals were to increase my shot put by 6 to 9 feet to that 35 foot mark and try to get my discus throws near 100' and hopefully add more distance my senior year.
Here at Washington County, we are very limited in having any kind of training facilities. We work out in the parking lot two to three days a week. There is no shot put or discus pit. I started throwing the shot and discus in 6th grade on a middle school track team. I changed schools mid-way through my 8th grade year to a much smaller high school with a small, probably overlooked track and field teams for both the boys and girls. There are usually five to seven girls on the team each spring outdoor season. There is no indoor season.
I feel with good training facilities, good coaching and a ton of hard work, my distances will increase. I will be a real asset to a college track and field team.
Despite coronavirus, I am throwing the shot and discus this spring about two days a week with my dad at a local high school. My birthday present was a javelin and I am practicing it as well. My distances are slowly increasing with my best discus throw of 88 feet, shot throw at 27'8" and almost 90 feet with the javelin. I am working out at the gym with my friend about four nights each week for about two hours. He pushes me real hard. The workouts are split between strength and conditioning and cardio.
Thank you for taking the time to read my resume. Please stay healthy and coronavirus free.
Lynne
