I am proud of my resilience as a person and an athlete. I loved all sports growing up. Unfortunately in 8th grade, I tore my ACL during a travel team soccer game. I underwent reconstructive surgery. As I entered my Freshman year of high school, I wasn't cleared for running yet. So I competed on my high school swimming team. In Sophomore year, I earned varsity letter in cross-country. I was working hard and loved the bond I formed with my teammates. Unfortunately the following Spring, I re-tore my ACL again in soccer and had to undergo two more surgeries resulting in reconstruction ACL quad graph as I entered my Junior year. I wasn't able to compete XC as a junior but stayed involved with team as I went through my rehab. When finally cleared to run in May, I ran partial track season and found I loved it too. But realized I still needed time to build back muscle and strength. My senior year was my year to really begin to grow and excel. I was able to reach my personal best 5k but feel like I have so much more to give.
I am determined to reach my goals. I believe I have the talent to be a strong and competitive cross-country college athlete and finally reach my potential. I am also a serious, hard-working student with goals of being in the health and medicine field. My dream is to work with "Doctors Without Borders". My experience overcoming adversity, has taught me to to persevere and realize I have the strength to be a part of so much more.
