My coaches have always liked me for my desire to keep getting faster. I am always looking for ways to improve my training and lifestyle to be able to improve on and off the track or course. Every week I try to keep myself up to my high standards. But on top of that, I do understand the importance of rest, and not just running, but strengthening other parts of my body as well. I have had some injuries, and even then, I was still discovering different ways to stay fit and healthy. Through those tough times, I was always supportive of my team, and even if I could not race I attended every event I could. My teammates have always enjoyed running with me, and I find that I get along well with almost everyone I meet. For me, sportsmanship is an important aspect of the sport, and after every race, I try to congratulate people who have participated in racing against me, even if they are not on my team.
An important event that changed my outlook on the sport was definitely my broken foot during my freshmen year of the cross-country season. My mental health took a turn for the worst. My team was one of my biggest supporters in helping me stay healthy and happy. Their meets were what I looked forward to the most. I really value a great team that will include and support me. I am grateful to claim that my team was kind enough to include me and help me through the injury by making cookies, sending cards, and giving me their chocolate milk after the race! I have come out of the injury with a new love for the sport. After my first race back, my coaches noticed my big smile; and every race after, that smile has never faded. I value the privilege of running, and really want to keep pursuing it competitively after high school.
Not only is my sport important, but I take my education very seriously. I strive to have a great balance between athletic and academic life, and so far, I have developed a routine that allows me to pursue both to the best of my ability. I try to not let one take over the other and I try to save some time for resting and myself. Seeing a counselor once every two weeks has been beneficial for me. Those sessions allow me to take a look at my life and focus on my mental and emotional well-being. It has really helped my stress level throughout the summer and into the new school year. It helps me stay under control mentally, which I feel is important especially when I am reaching for success in so many things!
