Hello, my name is Annika Peterson. I am currently a sophomore at Schoolcraft High School in Schoolcraft Michigan. I have been running since I was nine when I joined Girls on the Run. Although I was sad when I found out everyone gets a medal, I still continued to run with Girls on the Run the next two years I was eligible. When I entered middle school I finally started running competitively with a team. I wasn’t the fastest on the team and in my sixth grade season I would take walk breaks when running the races. I was determined to run the whole race. My seventh grade year I began to run every race. I was so proud of myself and I knew I still wasn’t the fastest but I didn’t care, what I really wanted might be a reality, college athletics, specifically running. I continued my final year of middle school cross country on a high note continuing on to track in the spring. I was becoming a lot more confident in my running this was my third year running track and I had just finished my third year of cross country in the fall. You can definitely say I was in love with running. My summer going into ninth grade I really was just trying to slide by being the underdog freshman, the upperclassmen weren’t too happy having a freshman in the number one spot, but once I made it to states my freshman year I new I really had a chance at college athletics and I just might be able to finally fulfill my twelve year old dream.
