My love for Track and Field, came after my 7 years competing regionally in the Xcel Gymnastics program offered by USA Gymnastics. The Xcel Program is a national USA Gymnastics program of gymnastics levels that runs alongside the Junior Olympic (JO) program.
During my gymnastics competition years, I was selected to the Nevada State team 3 times and was the Nevada State Champion, twice. During the spring of 2020, I was well on my way to winning a third state title, winning the All-Around in large regional meets, such as Charity Choice in Tacoma, WA, Spirit of the Flame in Santa Clara, CA and the Boise State University Open in Boise, ID. Then Covid-19 happened. All sports and their events got canceled, including our state championships. As I was finishing my freshman year of high school that spring online, I was looking for other ways to channel my athletic experience. I spent quite a bit of time with my grandmother and riding horses as we were all socially distanced until late fall (first semester of my Sophomore year) when vaccines were starting to become available. One of my former gymnast teammates suggested that I check out a private pole vault club here in Reno, Nevada as they were offering 6-week classes to see if you'll like it. Needless to say, I was hooked. All the athleticism that was necessary in gymnastics, but I could compete for my high school. After those 6-weeks and continuing on as a member of the Raise The Bar Club Team in Reno, NV, I went out for the Varsity Track Team in the Spring of 2021 and made it. Not only did I make the team, but ended up vaulting in the Nevada State Finals in the spring of 2021 with a height of 10'-0". That placed me in the top 10 vaulters here in our state. I also compete and train with my club at least three times a week along side any high school team practices and meets.
All this while maintaining 3.9 GPA, even through the Covid-studying-from-our-house year. All those years of competing and training for gymnastics, taught me well how to budget my time and make sure I was getting my work done. As, if the academic work was not done, then competing in athletics was not going to happen. As a high school Freshman, I received my academic letter with my high school, that I still have as a Junior. I take a variety of AP classes and am in the Sports Medicine Academy here at Spanish Springs High School.
I think my best attributes are my hard work ethic in athletics and academics, willingness to learn new things and being a good teammate to support my team members. All of those things I have learned so far in my athletic career and look forward to talking with you further about how I can help your team go farther, all while pushing myself to be my best.
