Kayla Mazza '12 Recruiting Profile

Hi, My name is Kayla Mazza, I am going to be a Senior in high school. I began to participate in track and field when the cross country coach thought I would be better suited at throwing. I began the winter of my freshman year, with the shot put indoors. Come outdoor I broke my schools freshman discus record that has been standing for 37 years. In the discus I made it to States(Group 2) for the discus. Sophomore year I made it States (Group 2) for shot put. Junior year I made it to States(Group 2) for shot put and discus. I threw 37' 3" in shot put at States(Group 2) placing 3rd and advancing to the Meet of Champions. I normally win the dual meets and lead my team in the throwing relays. At practice I am always available and ready to throw, and often I stay after with the coach and assistant coach to practice some more after everyone leaves. Because we have such a large team I am often correcting others and helping them with their technique based off what I have been told by my coaches. Not only have I been named Most Valuable Field Performer for my high school my first two years, I have also been on high honors for a majority of my high school semesters, recieving an Academic Scholars Award. In my free time away from track and my studies I perform on an all star level 5 cheerleading squad. I aspire to be apart of a college track and field program, as I know I am driven to succeed in a competitive setting. I not only practice hard but compete to my best every chance I can, and that is why I was named a captain as a Junior, while most captain's are picked their senior year. I am open to traveling anywhere for my schooling, as long as they have my goal major of physical therapy/biology.
