Hi I am Laila Canelo, I have been on my tracks varsity team since I was a freshmen. Junior year I was unable to compete in winter track because I had ankle surgery in November of 2020. It was hard recovering and and getting back to running. I wasn’t even sure if I was going to be able to compete in the spring but I was able to not only compete but get my personals best. It was challenging trying to keep up with everyone when my ankle wasn’t 100 percent but it's getting better and better everyday.
Even though I do enjoy sports and running track my academics are very important to me. I am a high honor roll student and principles list student. I like to keep my average in the mid 90s and keep trying to strive for better and push my self. As an athlete it is easy to get carried away and forget about school but I always remind myself that my education comes first.
My goals for when I go to college and run track are to be part of a team that pushes me to be the best athlete I can be and to have a coach that helps me reach my fullest potential. I am a hard worker on the track and in school and will not stop until I’m the best I can be.
