Family is everything to me and I am fortunate enough to have a family that supports me in everything I do. Having this support in my life has made me realize that having a support system behind you is everything anyone would ever want. It has made me strive into being the person I want to be; knowing I have the support in doing so.
What striked my interest in track? To be honest my 8th grade year I had some friends of mine trying to force me to join the track team because of how fast I was. I debated over it a lot and eventually joined the track team in 8th grade because of my friends. But, after joining the track I became not only interested in the sport or because my friends were there with me, but I fell in love with the sport. I loved the way that it was an individual but team sport, so if I had an off night I would only be letting myself down not my whole team, and I loved the way I could show off the competitive side of me. Because of this competition and individuality I got to know what I am capable of doing and this drives me to be the best I can be.
There comes a time in my life when sports are not the only thing that's important to me, but so are my academic achievements as well. I plan to not only learn more about my sport, but I also plan to learn academically in whatever I choose to do.
I have had a major mental obstacle in my way before. My freshman year I made it to Regionals in the long jump and I told myself, "my goal next year is to make it on the podium at Regionals". My sophomore year I ended 8th at Regionals achieving my goal of making it on the podium, but I wanted a new goal, to make it to State. That summer everyday I got up early and went to the track and ran and lifted weights. My obstacle was the mental approach that I had on the situation. I knew that the girls that wanted to make it to State were doing the same thing I was doing. So I trained harder and pushed myself to be stronger not only physically but mentally too. I was determined to make it to State and I put my goal into action by making it to State in the long jump the following year. For me being able to do this it required determination, strength, drive, competitiveness, commitment, confidence, and grit. I displayed these words to get to where I am today which makes me a strong competitor in all aspects of the sport.
