Hello!! I am Alyssa McDowell and I run Cross Country and Track for my high schools varsity team. I haven't always been a runner though. Most of my life I grew up playing a softball, but when I joined track in the 8th grade, I knew this sport was meant to be. I was extremely nervous to go to my first practice because I've never ran over a quarter mile, but I knew I needed to take on this challenge. Immediately after that practice, I fell in love. Since I played team sports growing up, I went into track thinking it was completely individual, but I quickly learned that the most important part of being successful is having a team relationship with girls that can work together through thick and thin.
An important quality of mine is leadership. I've been told by my coaches and teachers that I have excellent leadership qualities making me an excellent team player. I love to support my teammates on the track along with watching them grow alongside with me and I make sure I always make everyone feel proud no matter what the time on the clock says.
Not only am I passionate about running, but I make school my main priority. I take honors and concurrent classes at my high school because I like the feeling of being pushed with a challenge. I make sure I maintain good grades as I know that that is a very important part to my life as an athlete.
I am excited to continue this journey as a student athlete into the collegiate world!
