My name is Jay Olawaiye and I am a rising senior in High School. I have triple jumped for my school team since my freshman year and developed a love for it. My coach, Coach Jared Jones, watched my triple jump journey, from my very first jump of 28 feet to becoming the state runner up in triple jump within 18 months. I really surprised myself in this event because I improved by almost 10 feet since the first jump. I also played varsity tennis and was the first singles player over the last 3 years. I received the Western Pa girls sportsmanship award in recognition my conduct on the tennis court and positive interactions with opponents and their coaches in 2023.
Outside sports, I am interested in the STEM field. I was accepted into Hillman Cancer Center Research Academy this summer for ophthalmology research and recently completed a robotics course through Carnegie Mellon University. I am taking AP classes and competed in Science Olympiad every year. My goal is to pursue a career in medicine or engineering in future.
I have a passion for leadership and helping people which is why I ran for Students Council President this year and won the election. I was Vice President this past year and I'm super excited to continue leading the student body in a positive direction.
I enjoy being busy and have participated in other activities like math league, battle of the books and orchestra, playing the viola.
