I am an athlete who has always had a passion for sport. Before I even knew what professional sports were I was about 5 years old and was fascinated watching the women's world cup. Although I do not remember it, my mom tells me that I turned to her and in all seriousness said that I wanted to play that in that game one day. Eventually, I did play travel soccer for a few years as well swim on a U.S. swim team among others. From a young age, I have been very goal oriented and driven. This has led to success in and out of the sports I have played. It has also taught me how to manage disappointment and work harder to achieve my goals. A highlight of my U.S. swim experience was qualifying for the Junior Olympics twice and placing on my high school's top ten all time list in my Freshman year. Early on I truly believed that I was a swimmer. That was of course until I fell in love with running. My first experience was in second grade with the iRun4Life running program that was started locally and continues to grow yearly. That year, I competed in the kids only 3K run. The program was new and although there were 2 waves for the 400 kids in grades 1 through 6, there was only one start time. I was of course in the second wave yet somehow was able to regain the lost time and as a second grader was able to finish first for my grade but more notably was among the top 6 girls overall that day. From that year on, I finished first for my grade and took the overall female winner the last 2 years. In 7th grade, I was invited to be a motivational speaker for iRun4Life to encourage other children to get involved in running. Their website still features a video that was made to highlight me as a runner and advocate for good nutrition which is another goal of the program. I eventually ran for CYO and made the top Archdiocese meet twice as well as ran for my middle school track team. Freshman year was my first experience running cross country and it was a perfect fit. I was ranked 2nd overall girl my freshman year. I guess you might be able to guess what one of my goals will be this coming sophomore year! I am looking forward to continuing to set goals and work hard in sport, academics, and extra-curriculars. I also want to continue to be a motivator to get more athletes involved in cross country and track. This year I assumed the unofficial role of recruiting for our high school team with many new athletes joining. It felt so good at the informational meeting when a girl came up to me and said that I was the reason that she was there. My ultimate goal is to be involved with running at the college level and continue to foster a love of sport for others. I believe that sports has helped me immeasurably to grow into the person I am today. It has given me self confidence and has motivated me to live a life of personal fitness, taught me to give my all to whatever it is I set out to do, be a good friend and teammate, and most of all to guard my integrity.
