Personal Statement

For me throwing shotput and discus in college is not the end goal, it is merely a stepping stone for an even bigger goal, to become an Olympic thrower. I am well aware that to some individuals this might seem too ambitious or even impossible but I believe I can do it. You see, I am no strange to hard work. I wake up every morning and head to the gym. Then, I tackle my heavy academic workload at school and  head to my weight lifting class at the end of the day. After the school day is over, I go to track practice for two hours that come home and take care of my homework as well as my household responsibilities. On top of all of that, I have a job so I can take some of the burden off my parents and help pay for my expenses such as AP testes fees and car insurance. Therefore, I know with my work ethic and drive, I can achieve it all. It is true, however, that the odds are against me this year because of the cancellation of my junior track season  but that will not stop me. I continue to work everyday to make my dreams a reality and I will not rest until they become true.

  • I am very passionate about power lifting and have falling in love with in over the years. I constantly deadlift, strict press, bench press, clean, back squat, etc. My heaviest 3 rep max for deadline as of the beginning of this year was 225. However I don't only weight lift, I throw in the some cardio such as running sprints or bleachers since my goal is not only to be the strongest athlete on the track but also the most rounded.

  • I started throwing shotput and discus in 8th grade and since then I have see tremendous improvement in my throwing abilities. I continue to put in the work every single day on and off of the track.
