When I moved to America, I never thought of being a track and field athlete, even though my dad wanted me to pursue a sport.
Little did I know, by the age of 9 years old, I fell in love with Track and Field.
Throughout my 7 years of running, the track has taught me about the importance of family, faith, self-confidence, maturity, being humble and so much more. Track and field have helped to mold me into a leader and role model for others.
In 2015, I placed top 8 in the nation at the AAU Jr. Olympics. The following year, in 2016 I placed top 5 in the nation. Those were the most memorable seasons of my life because It confirmed that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.
This sport that I love has also led me to experience my fair share of challenges. In 2017, I struggled with gaining weight and understanding that track is mostly a mental race. During those challenging times, I leaned on my amazing support system to offer me guidance. I also dug deeper and made a commitment to myself that I would take control of my weight and gain mental toughness. So far, I have stayed true to my commitment.
In 2018 and 2019, I led my 4x4 relay team to Victory, we placed 1st in the nation in the 15/16-year-old division. Also in 2019, while competing in the Junior Olympics at North Carolina A&T, I made it to finals in the 800m run with a personal record (PR) of 2.17.09.
I currently have a 3.7 GPA. I am an officer in one of my three clubs. I am in three college classes and I was selected as MVP at my school track team. I would like to study Sports Science. My goal is to earn a scholarship to run at a competitive university.
