I started running track in sixth grade because my mom pushed me to just try it. I can't thank her enough. I have been on my school's Varsity team since Freshman year and ran in the state meet with my 4×8 relay team during the 2021 indoor track season. This was one of the most memorable times I have ever raced. During hand-offs our 4th leg runner was lapping other teams when she was pushed to the rail causing her to fall. We turned in a protest and the officials gave us the option to re-run the race on our own. With just an hour rest, my team and I lined up for a second time; just us against the clock. We finished 2nd overall and gained the respect of a lot of other coaches.
I played receiver in football from 7th grade through freshman year even though I was the only girl on our school team. The experience gave me new skills and make me very coachable. As a student athlete I have been taught to be a leader off the field first. Competing is a privilege. I want to run track for as long as long as I can, all I need is the opportunity.
