For many athletes striving for the opportunity to be recruited on a collegiate level, all training must be perfectly efficient. From injury prevention, to team trainers, to the best facilities a high-school athlete could dream of, cross-county runners aim for perfection in all aspects of training. For a class 1 runner like myself those resources are simply not available.
I did not discover my love of running until nearly my sophomore year of high-school. Since then I have injury and obstacle to further the small program at my school and prove that class 1 runners can be competitive.
The following being said i was determined to revive the track program at my small school, which is made much more difficult in that we lack a track. Nonetheless our small but determined team persevered, training on dirt roads and weekends so that we could qualify for the state meet even if it had to be individually.
Overall I believe not only in performance but in potential, and one’s ability to succeed under the circumstances they are given. I believe that a runners strongest assets are always their determination and heart for the sport, and would love to see how far I could truly push myself if granted the opportunity to partner my class 1 grit with collegiate level training.
