I have been preparing for my college experience since I was seven, when I first started my athletic journey taking part in camps and public meets over the summer. Having started off as a long-distance runner, discovering pole vault and my passion for the event was a shock. Watching other vaulters with near-perfect form and achieving great heights inspired me to want to do the same. I trained my body to become fast and powerful, working on weight lifting and practicing vaulting off-season to achieve my goals.
Being a part of the track leadership committee and being nominated the pole vault team captain allowed me to utilize my leadership skills. I have worked diligently to set the best example for my team. I am the best version of myself when I am vaulting.
While pole vaulting is very important to me, attending an excellent business school will define my future career. My dream would be to merge my academics as a business major with my athletics in pole vaulting. Academically, my goal is to earn a GPA of 3.8 by the end of this year. I take pride in my effort to succeed in each class and am always striving for complete understanding. I am ready for a rigorous academic college, as I have been challenging myself every year with above grade level classes and running start.
With the current pandemic, my junior season, weight lifting, and North West Pole Vault, the organization I vault with off-season, has been cancelled or closed. However, I remain motivated and continue to practice my strength and speed with at-home training.
Despite missing my junior season, I still find myself academically and athletically ready for college. Being able to vault in college would allow me to further pursue my dream of becoming an advanced vaulter.
