Hello, my name is Kalaya Brown, Class of 2020. I live with my parents Malee & Tyrone, along with my two younger brothers Tyree & Sebastian in Mesa, AZ. Growing up in my multicultural household, I learned that hard work and dedication is needed to accomplish my goals. Seeing my parents work so hard for us to provide the opportunities that they didn't have, has made me appreciate playing volleyball even more. I grew up playing multiple sports with family, so I have always wanted to be an athlete and compete. It wasn't until I played a pick-up game of volleyball at school that I knew that this was the sport I wanted to play. My family and my relationships with my friends, teammates and coaches are the most important things in my life. I've learned from all of them...
I am a player who loves to constantly learn new strategies on how to become a better volleyball player and person. One of my strengths is how coachable I am. I never think there is just single way to do something. I think that everyone has a way that works for them and that's why volleyball is such an amazing sport to play, because you constantly learn new techniques and ways to improve your game. I consider myself a hard worker, not just on the court, but off the court. By working with my athletic trainer outside of school and club strength and conditioning, I've learned how to stay disciplined when put in a situation that not only tests me physically, but mentally. I learned that by staying focused on the process and the technique, the results will come.
My main goal is to be the first in my family to graduate with a college degree, while playing at the highest level of volleyball possible. I realize how much hard work and persistence it will take in order to accomplish my goals. My desire to play volleyball has me open to playing anywhere in the country even if it's far from home.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
