Personal Statement

I have been dedicated to playing competitive volleyball since 2015. I have learned key team member skills and flexibility depending on what my team needed from me, as well as a drive to perfect my skills. I am in my final year of volleyball and am the captain of my school's senior team. My yearn for greatness is shown through my numerous hours of additional training and my ability to be a leader on the court. I have represented hustle, hard work, and consistency throughout my play, and when asked, coaches describe me as energetic, positive, and dedicated. Not only has this game made me the strongest physically that I have been, but it has also helped me to learn to stay committed when faced with failure and to work harder in the face of adversity. On top of this, I have succeeded academically throughout my entire educational career. I have been involved in student council since grade 4, have taken on extensive leadership roles in and outside of school, and participated in competitive sports. I manage my time efficiently without compromising the quality of my work, as demonstrated by consistently earning honours with distinction since 2010, and receiving Academic Excellence awards since 2016. Over the past two years, I was given the opportunity to be a role model in my school by coaching the grade 7 and 8 girls’ volleyball teams. I created practice plans, ran efficient drills, and was a mentor. In addition, this past September I was chosen as captain of my own senior team. I worked hard in this role to create team bonding opportunities, push my teammates when needed and work alongside my coach to find success. I have consistently been recognized for my other achievements, such as awards including the ‘Heart Award’ with T2 volleyball in 2018, the ‘Gryphon Spirit Award’ in 2019, and the citizenship award in 2018. Overall, my consistency to perfect my academic and volleyball skills pushes me above other volleyball recruits and would make me the ideal candidate for any college or university team.
