My name is Victoria Trim. I am a senior student at Clayton Heights Secondary School in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada and I will be graduating in June 2012.
Volleyball has been a huge part of my life ever since I started playing on the grade 6 team. I’ve played four years of club volleyball, school volleyball for five years and beach volleyball for the last three years. I also played rep soccer for 7 years and as much as I enjoyed that whole experience, when volleyball became such a huge part of my life, and I realized I wanted to play college ball, I made the decision to give up soccer to concentrate on my volleyball.
I am 135 pounds, and 5 ‘9”. I am a dedicated, hard-working right or left side hitter. During my U15 Club year I played at the U15 and U17 level, and during my U16 year, I played on U16 and U18 teams. Thanks to that experience and the excellent coaching I had, I saw great improvement in my skills those years. My club team won a silver medal in division 2 at nationals in May 2011
In grade 10, I was pulled up to play on the senior school team. That year we placed 6th in AAAA provincials. In Grade 11 we won Fraser Valley championships and took bronze in AAA provincials. This year we again took bronze in AAA provincials, losing only the semi-final game in the whole tournament.
I have jumped on every opportunity to get extra training to be just that much stronger a player. I was one of 70 girls chosen in the province to attend the 4 day Provincial Team Selection Camp in Grade 10 and Grade 11. Although not chosen for the provincial team I was selected for the allstar team. In grade 11 I trained every Sunday in the dominate program at the Olympic Oval. This September I was invited to participate in an elite program at the Volleyball Centre of Excellence. It is a low athlete to coach ratio (8:1), high repetition, low intensity program that targets all volleyball skill sets. Twice a week for two hours during my spare at school I attend this program. It is amazing the impact this program has had on my game and my coaches have been impressed with my progress as well!
It was in grade 10 that I realized how passionate I was about playing volleyball. Since then I live, breath and sleep volleyball. For the last three years, there isn’t one month in the year that I am not playing. I imagine I shall play volleyball my whole life! Right now my dream for the foreseeable future is to play collegiate ball for the next four years.
I believe I have great leadership skills, and my coaches are impressed with my hard work and coachable attitude. I am a member of student council and in Sept 2011 I was one of three students to represent my school at the Canadian leadership conference in Newfoundland. I have been on the honor roll throughout high school. When I’m not studying, I am actively involved in leadership roles in school clubs that benefit others: global issues, Link Crew and Drive which are mentorship programs for grade 8 students.
Ideally, I am looking for a school with more than 2000 students, but less than 20000 students but would not rule out an opportunity based on size. I would prefer not to attend a junior college. I don’t have a specific region I am interested in. My goal is to improve my athletic abilities while having fun and playing the sport I love. It would be awesome if I got play time as a freshman. I would like to bring a sense of family to the team, if there isn’t some already.
I want to feel part of the community at the school. Class sizes, academic excellence, school spirit, the success of the team, the training I will receive and the right size community are all important to me. At present, I am looking at pursuing a degree in science, majoring in biology. Although I realize my college studies, and hopefully playing volleyball will require dedication and hard work, it is important to me that my college years are an enjoyable experience.
