** Update Feb. 2019 -- I have recently signed to play volleyball and finish my college education at Menlo College beginning in the Fall of 2019!
My name is Kristen Whitney and I am looking to continue my volleyball career in 2019 after I complete my sophomore season at Folsom Lake College. I will have completed my Associates Degree from Folsom Lake College by May 2019.
I am an athletic 6'1" opposite hitter or middle who can also play all the way around on the court. I am a leader to my teammates by my actions on and off the court and dedication and commitment to the sport of volleyball. I am deeply competitive even though I do not always show that emotion outwardly!
I graduated from Folsom High School in Northern California in May 2017 with a 3.3 GPA. I was recruited to play volleyball at D-II Montana State University, Billings in Billings, MT in the Fall of 2017. After one season of playing volleyball and completing my freshman year of college with a 3.2 GPA, I am now playing one season at a local Junior College for a very competitive program at Folsom Lake College. I am very interested in playing volleyball at the collegiate level and have continued to dedicate my training and academic career to this goal.
I am very versatile on the court and have the ability to receive serve and can even perform as a setter as I started my career in the 6th grade as a setter. I was primarily a middle in my early high school and club career but also can play right side as I am a very effective blocker.
I have very positive relationships with all of my coaches and have been fortunate to play for many different coaching styles and personalities. I played two years of varsity basketball in high school and while doing very well in that sport, I decided to focus exclusively on volleyball beginning with my junior year of high school.
I am open to many different possibilities for a college major and a potential career and have focused my first year and a half in college on courses related to Education, Physical Therapy or Business Administration.
Although my parents will help in my decision as to where I will play in college, I have learned first hand about the rigors of college and the dedication and time management it takes to be a student-athlete. I have experience how important it is to select a college that is a match for me as both an athlete and a student and I am open to many different possibilities.
