Personal Statement

My name is Meghann Velasquez and I am in the graduating class of 2020. I currently play as an outside hitter for both high school and club volleyball, but aspire to play as a libero at the collegiate level. I have been a high school varsity player since freshman year and a captain since sophomore year. I have also been voted the MVP since freshman year. As for club, I have been an active captain for several years now. I am a dedicated team player and leader who looks to work hard in both athletics and academics. In attending college I hope to study design in marketing, or any other form of art. In terms of academics, I recently received the highest GPA in my school (4.6) as well as a 1300 on my SAT. I am able to manage my time well, allowing me to excel in school and sports. I am also a very active and involved student in my school. I have been a class officer since sophomore year and have been a member of several clubs throughout the years, such as fashion club, world languages club, key club, yearbook club, and ASB (associative student body). I (and others) do consider myself to be a natural born leader and a fast learner. I am able to lead a team — whether we are winning or losing — while maintaining poise and a humble attitude.  Encourage teammates, while also being able to demand from your team, is what a captain should be able to do. I have come to learn this throughout my many years of being captain, improving each year. I have become a lot more confident, trusting, and communicative on and off the court. I always promote teamwork and good sportsmanship.  Personally, I would say I work very well with others; I find that communication and cooperation are very important in a player/team.
