Personal Statement

My name is Ashley Chipman, and I am a seasoned volleyball player that has played actively in both Club and High School at an elite level.  I currently play for the Supernova 17 All-Star team, the club's strongest team, and have played with Club Supernova (based in Granada Hills, CA) since age 12.  Our team is typically ranked in the top 32 teams in SCVA, and we just won all our matches at Mandatory #1 on February 10, 2019.  I normally play as the team's starting outside hitter, but one of our middle blockers suffered a leg injury early in the season.  Due to my experience and the team's depth at OS, my coach asked me to play middle for the good of the team.  Even though it has been two years since I have played the position, I accepted.  We also just played at The Las Vegas Classic 17's Open Division from February 16-18 at Mandalay Bay.  We won all our matches on Day 1, and we were just a few points shy in our final match on Day 2 of playing for gold on Day 3.

Let me be direct. I love playing volleyball and can play just about any position.  I can help a college team win games.  I have played every position on the court except setter, so I can fill just about any need.

I attend Granada Hills Charter High School and I was the only Sophomore asked to move up to the Varsity Girls Volleyball team back in 2017.  We have a very deep and competitive program with three teams.  Our team won the the LA City Open Championship against Palisades H.S. in 2017, and nearly won again in 2018.  On September 15, 2018, we won the Royal Classic Tournament.  As champion, we beat quality opponents such as San Marcos, Thousand Oaks and Ventura.  Granada had never won this tournament before despite a rich history in girl's volleyball.  I look forward to helping Granada Hills win another Los Angeles City Championship in my senior year.

See link to story from last year when I helped us beat our rival Taft: https://www.dailynews.com/2018/09/27/granada-hills-girls-volleyball-redeems-itself-with-win-over-rival-taft-at-home/

As you may know, Granada Hills H.S. is widely known for its strong academics, and routinely wins the Academic Decathlon.  Honestly, my grades are not quite where I want them, but I am working hard to bring up my GPA going forward.  I am well rounded, confident, hard working, responsible, and dedicated.  I am a team player that truly enjoys that game of volleyball, a good laugh, and good friends.  I don't back down to anyone when is comes to volleyball, and I'm not intimidated by girls that are taller.  I plan to excel in college both on and off the court.  Although I'm undecided about my future major, I am interested in communications, journalism, education and business.
