I have always known that I've wanted to play college level sports. when I put my heart and soul into something I've taken it to the very top. I may be unlike most Volleyball players in that I've not been playing for years. I was a soccer player for 11 years, making it all the way to the top traveling team. But when I played volleyball as a Freshman in High School, I knew I would be retiring my Soccer cleats. that Summer, I joined several VB camps and the next year after playing my 2nd year of High School VB, I tried out and made roster for 3 teams. Even though I could have played for a first team, I chose to play for a 2nd team with the NorCal Volley Ball Club because I had a better chance of learning and growing more in my skill development.
The biggest challenge with my decision was knowing I may not play as much as I would, had I chosen another team with less of a positive reputation. I wanted to contribute to the team and I knew I could make a difference if given the chance. it was very difficult to choose skill development over play time. But looking back now, I learned so much; patience, teamwork, and that hard work would allow me to earn the playing time I wanted. I learned that I would have to make many sacrifices to enhance my skills. With this in mind I was committed to be at every practice; step outside my comfort zone and play positions that may not have been my favorite, but would allow me to contribute more to my team. I learned that I would have to be aggressive and want "success" more than the next person. Everyone wants success, however, it's a matter of who wants it more and who's willing to work harder for it. It was only a couple of weeks before I began to gel with the team in a positive manner and by mid season I was starting and being recognized as a major contributor to the team. I'm looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically as well as academically. I believe I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character and work-ethic to make a positive contribution to the program. As a dedicated student athlete for more than 10 years, I believe I have what it takes to be a contributing team player with leadership potential for your team!
