My name is Mekenzee Walke. I am a 5'10” middle hitter from Ridgecrest CA. I first started playing volleyball in 2019 for a club team called Ridgecrest Starlings. I was a starting middle hitter for the JV team this past high school season (2023). I'm very passionate about the sport and I am very excited for future seasons. I think I am a good fit for the middle hitter position because I always get my block up, I am able to run quick sets consistently and communicate with my setter, I have a consistent float serve and I am a strong backrow defender when I serve. I'm willing to work as hard as possible to achieve my dream of playing sports in college. While I am a hard-working player, I am also a hard-working student. My school volleyball program takes our grades and education seriously, teaching us how to balance our schoolwork and our sport. I am looking for a bigger school and I am open to any level of playing. I was involved in the FCA club (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). I am a dedicated player. Whether I am on the court or on the bench, I am always cheering on my teammates and trying to encourage them. Volleyball has taught me many things; it has taught me how to discipline myself and to encourage others while also encouraging myself. The most important thing this sport has taught me though is how to persevere and learn from my mistakes. I think knowing how to persevere through tough situations is an important thing to know. Especially as an athlete, because you aren't going to win every game and not every practice is going to be perfect, but being able to learn from that and not stay stuck in a bad mentality so you can learn from the mistakes you made is an amazing skill as an athlete. Volleyball comes with a lot of challenges; I love the sport and without the challenges it brings it wouldn't be the same. I am very passionate and look forward to playing at the next level and playing this sport for as long as can.
