Before I hit the age of 11, I barely even knew what a volleyball was. I had no idea what the game of volleyball was about, but one day, my older sister brought me into a summer volleyball camp for girls my age at her college. At first, because I mainly played basketball, I wasn't really into the whole idea of going out of my comfort zone and going to a camp for a whole new sport I knew nothing about, but as soon as I stepped onto that court, I knew that volleyball was for me. I knew it was something that I wanted to succeed in and hopefully play for a while. When I first started playing, I was not all that good. In fact, I did not make the teams in my middle school years, but I didn't let those minor setbacks discourage me. It only made me want to better myself even more. By the time high school came around, I had no club experience because my family could not afford it at the time, but I still practiced on my own time with friends and my sisters, so when volleyball season started, I had made the freshman team.
By the time my sophomore year came around, and I played JV, my mom finally let me play club. Club volleyball was like a whole new world that I discovered. Everything was at a much faster pace that I was not used to but I adjusted pretty quickly. That's one good quality about me, how I adjust to new things fast. None of my club teammates could tell in the way that I played that it was, in fact, my very first year of playing club. I tried not to show it in my face, my attitude, or in my playing that I had had no experience, and I was pretty good at that. I even worked to gain a starting position on that team. I also was a starter the next season on Varsity in my junior year and on my next club season team at NCVC. At the end of my varsity season in my junior year, I was in second place out of the entire league for my blocking. I had a pretty good year.
My main goal is to play volleyball in college. Throughout my years of playing volleyball, I have not only developed physical skill, team leadership skills, and the concept of teamwork, but I have also developed an extreme passion and desire to keep playing. I believe that my determination and passion makes me a good candidate for teams.
