Dedication and hard work have been my reality as long as I can remember. As a competitive athlete, training in the gym five hours a day, 6 days a week is what it took to achieve the level of success I desired. My athletic journey began in competitive gymnastics where I developed core physical strength, agility, speed and mental focus - these are the athletic capabilities that enhance my performance on the volleyball court. I transitioned from gymnastics to volleyball five years ago and found my passion in the sport. I love the strategic aspects of volleyball - reading the location of the set and the approach of the hitters, knowing when the setters are going to dump the ball and identifying open shots for teammates. My mental focus coupled with my quick reaction time and speed on the court offers a competitive advantage that distinguishes me from other defensive players.
As the captain of my high school volleyball team, I brought a level of maturity and focus to the team that was needed to accelerate our technical skill development and enhance the effectiveness of our team dynamic. At our final tournament, our team won gold and I received the "All Tournament" award based on my coach's nomination and the votes from other teams' coaches at the event.
I've known early in my life that my academic success depends upon actively participating in a very competitive sport, where I am compelled to make good use of my time through prioritization. Looking forward to college, I am targeting an environment that will continue to challenge me with both a rigorous academic and strong volleyball program.
