My name is Camille Solovjev and I am a junior at Capistrano Valley Christian School and this is my 6th year of playing club volleyball. I have played both soccer and softball at a high level, but once I started playing volleyball, I quickly discovered that it is my passion.
To put it simply, I love playing volleyball.
I currently play libero for the San Clemente Volleyball Club 17-1’s team and have been co-captain for the past 3 years. My dad likes to say that I transferred my goalkeeping abilities (agility, quick reflexes and defensive skills) to the volleyball court! Every time I step on the court I am ready to compete and you will never see me give less than 100%. My mindset is to never give up and I go hard for every ball, every time. When you see me play, you will never see a ball drop without me hitting the floor or making an amazing effort to keep it alive.
I play well under pressure and stay focused no matter what is happening on or off the court. I am a coachable player who values feedback and is able to make adjustments. When needed, I am able to provide high-quality sets to my hitters whether I bump set or hand set. I am a good communicator and vocal player and if there is a lull in play, you will see me encouraging my team and bringing us back into the game.
I have the ability and skill to be a versatile player and this was a benefit to my high school team this season. Since I a was a transfer student, I had to cheer my team on from the sidelines for the first 30 days of the season but eagerly stepped in to help where I was needed when my “sit out” time was over. My coach had me play OH this year…she said she needed me to play all the way around this season because of my strong ball control and hitting efficiency. I felt out of place at first, but quickly embraced my new role and used the opportunity to become much more versatile in my defense and still led my team in digs per set.
Although I am still trying to figure out what to focus on in college, I would love to play for a competitive 4 year program.
