My goals for College and the future is to become the best person I can be. Given I am always striving to do better I'm expecting to surprise myself and those around me. When I first stepped onto the court only 3-1/2 years ago, I had no idea if I wanted to play volleyball in college, I just found it to be fun. However, as time progressed and I started understand the complexities, the strength and power needed, I fell absolutely in love with the sport. I knew quickly that playing at the college level was a dream and goal of mine.
My mom, Michelle “Murray” Stearns, was a swimmer at University of Washington and she told me what it would take to play a sport in college, the amount of immense hard work and sacrifice it would take. But that it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity, making life long friends and creating forever memories, which is why I am willing to put all of my strength, effort and time to achieve that dream.
I am very hard on myself while playing volleyball and because of it, I always believe that my best is never enough. I push myself to achieve things I know I can do and wont stop till I get them down. I am incredibly coachable and listen intently to any feedback given, whether that be from teammates or coaches so that I can improve.
I work equally hard in the classroom as I do on the court. I have diagnosed learning disabilities (dyslexia and dyscalculia) that make school tougher for me then the average student. School for me has always been a difficult, it takes me twice as long to learn things then most students, but I always persevere and know that with hard work, patience and asking for help I can always learn and grow to use my differences as an asset, instead of working against them and letting them control my personal and school life.
I want to go to a school where I can gain knowledge in an area of expertise as I know I have a unique way of looking at things, making me the best student in the class, on the court and once I'm done with school in the workforce. I love the competition and open to all options to find the best fit for me and ultimately the right school to match the competition and academics as possible.
I want to be best person I can be for myself, my team members, coaches, friends, and family. My ultimate goal is to make my family and friends proud on whatever I choose to do.
