My name is Evelyn Kay Girard. For the 2021-2022 school year, I will be in my senior year of high school and varsity volleyball captain at Greenwich Academy, a private college preparatory school in Connecticut. I grew up on the court with my mother as both the head coach of my school and past volleyball club. I was trained from a young age to be diverse in most positions, however, I concentrate on playing as an outside hitter and a defensive specialist/libero. My most favorite skill is passing, knowing how important serve-receive is to the outcome of the game and push myself to pass at least above a 2.0 consistently.
This past varsity season was my fourth year as a high school varsity starter after being pulled up as an eighth-grader. As a captain next season, I am determined to push my team and grow as players so that we can take next season as far as we can. I do my best as a player to be a leader on and off the court and to implement coaching cues whenever they are given. I accept challenges, work hard, and push myself to be the best player I can be. I love to set goals for myself in order to become the best athlete I possibly can, in hoping to instill that in my teammates next year and setting the example that mistakes are nothing to dwell on but grow! I also enjoy playing in beach and grass volleyball tournaments over the summer to better my volleyball IQ. Volleyball is an amazing sport that I am grateful to be playing and I hope to continue competing throughout my college career. I am the player that works the hardest and constantly asks for more reps; I do not and will never give up. The goals I set for myself keep me on my toes and I do not rest until they have been achieved, and in doing so, constantly stay positive and learn from even the simplest, silliest mistakes that are bound to happen once in a while! I make up for my height in the front row when I can't swing away against big blockers by using the block and placing the ball where opposing players aren't, using my smarts and volleyball IQ to get points any way possible. Using my cut shots and ball placements are just as satisfying when they earn my team points.
My goal is to take volleyball as far as I can go with it and for as long as possible. It brings me a lot of joy to play because it is one of the most important things in my life! I am hopeful to play at a competitive level while having as much playtime as possible. I am open to colleges anywhere in the United States that have majors relating to exercise science and kinesiology.
