My name is Janelle Rice and I have a passion for the game of volleyball. I am an average student that is well rounded. I realize that I am a bit late in the recruiting process but I am a dedicated athlete looking to play in college. I am currently a senior at Orville H. Platt High school. I am interested in playing volleyball in the upcoming 2014 season. I play right side, I am 5'7" and I weigh 160 lbs.
I have played all 4 years of my high school volleyball career at O.H Platt High School. I was on the varsity roster all 4 years. During the summer I played on a summer league with my teammates to help prepare for the fall season. I am currently co-captain of the volleyball team. This season I was very fortunate to be recognized and earn a couple awards. The Connecticut High School Coaches Association voted me as one of only twenty-six girls in the state onto the Senior All-Star team. I also received All Conference recognition. We made it to the State Tournament every year and this year we did it again unfortunately losing to the eventual State Champion in the quarterfinals. We ended our season with a record of 18-3. I was disappointed in our loss but it did not take away from a successful year. I have had a great time getting to know and learn as much as I could from my coach and teammates.
I am confident in my abilities. I have good timing, making me a good blocker, I play good defense and protect the line the best I can. Setting is my backup position and while playing Right Side I can contribute on sets. I have actively promoted our volleyball program by going to the Middle Schools and recruiting for my team. I am passionate about the sport and it shows on and off the court. I am a coachable athlete. I am open to feedback that can help me improve my skills to allow me to be the best player and teammate that I can be. Volleyball is a team sport and I truly believe that it takes the whole team to be successful.
In the off season I play basketball and softball. I am a 2 year varsity starter for basketball and a 3 year varsity starter for softball. I was voted to be the captain of the softball team my junior year. I was voted most valuable player this year for the basketball team where I contributed to both the offense and defense. I was the second leading scorer, tied with a teammate for best free throw percentage, second in rebounds and lead the team in blocks.
I am looking to play volleyball for a college where I can be successful on and off the court. I plan to study Athletic Training/Sports Medicine/Sports Management.
