Mikayla Gibson '17 Recruiting Profile

I am currently a Junior at East Bay Senior High School, located in Gibsonton, FL.   My goal is to obtain my MD in Ophthalmology.  I'm very dedicated to my grades and have a 3.3 GPA right now, but am striving for a 4.0 this cumulative academic year!  Here's some background of my volleyball experience:  I have been playing volleyball for the past three years and have fallen in love with the sport.  Starting my eighth grade year, at Roberts Middle School, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, is when I realized how dedicated I was towards the sport.  I started out my freshman year on JV at Ellet High School in Akron, OH, before Varsity Coach Tina Wallace put me on her varsity team only two weeks later!  I was playing middle blocker position, and also was the only freshman to letter at the high school in many years.  Transitioning into my sophomore year, I made a big move to the Sunshine State, Florida, where I currently play for East Bay High School, where, again, I was placed on JV for only three games before being bumped up to the varsity team.  Here, I played as a right side hitter, because of my proficiency in blocking.  Now, I play volleyball year round.  Club season has taught me a lot about being a team player, to remain positive no matter what, and to always come together after every play.  It has given me the determination and drive to perfect my skill!  I consider myself as a great team player and am excited to excel in this area!  I love cheering my team on and encouraging them on and off the court!
