My grand father always told me " Don't work for the sport but let the sport work for you". So my goal is to use my classroom and my volleyball experience and achievements as a means of obtaining a scholarship to help finance my higher education aspirations. I am excited about finding a college or university where I can continue to play competitive volleyball, as well as obtain a degree in psychology.
I began to play volleyball in the 6th grade . I loved the energy and the competitiveness of the sport. When playing volleyball, I strive not only to have fun, but to work hard and help my team to succeed. I have played on several club teams. Playing volleyball helped me understand the meaning of teamwork, sacrifice and determination. As a result of my prior experience , I was one of three freshmen chosen to play on varsity volleyball team and receive my varsity letter. At this present time I have no personal achievement awards in volleyball but if my hard work and perseverance can be a guiding light for my team mates then I am satisfied. I will always strive to be a positive team mate and lead by example. Always ready to assist other players anyway that I can.
I approach my academics with the same energy I approach volleyball . When I hit a brick wall I seek help and guidance to get around any obstacle that might stand in my way. I think of a quote by Fredrick Douglas, when school get difficult, " Without struggle , there can be no progress". Knowing that once you break through one wall there s another adventure waiting for you on the other side keeps me motivated.
I believe that I would be a good candidate for a college team because I understand the value of a great education. If volleyball can help me achieve this goal then I will continue my adventure with great enthusiasm and dedication. I don't know if I am any different from other recruits because we all have similar aspirations and dreams, What I do understand is, words don't always define a person , but action is the true measure of a person character. To be a winner is greatest thing in life. Sometime life throws you a curve and you strikeout. Now, what you do after the strike out determines ones ability to handle the ups and downs of life. Yes, I have struck out but I hit more HOME RUNS!!!!!!
