Sterling Painter '24 Recruiting Profile

Hi Coach!

Thank you for considering me for your program. This is my third year playing on a Gold Medal Squared national club team. Last year I  played on the 14 National Team for Emerald Coast Volleyball Club and this year I am on the 15 National Team.   I am a student first and will finish this year with a 3.7 GPA or higher. Last year, before high school, I made the decision to go to Mosley High School, the most competitive high school team in the area. I knew going in to that first high school season that I had 5-6 other setters competing for 2 positions.  I am very proud to say that I earned the starting setter position for the Junior Varsity and helped my team to an undefeated season. I finished with 103 assists in 12 games and had the highest serve pergentage on my team.   I chose this ultra competitive school because I know iron sharpens iron and in order to be the best you have to compete with the best.  

My dad always tells me that the setter is the QB of the volleyball court even though I have never played football.  What he means is that I have to know where my teammates are all the time, run the offense, put the ball in the perfect spot for my hitters,  read the defense of the other team and be emotionally bulletproof no matter what the score is.  As an athlete I am a quick learner who tries to improve every time I touch the ball.  Whether that is in practice, at home peppering with my sister or just watching film, I don't like messing up but I know that mistakes are opportunities to get better at the sport I love.  

My passion for the sport is second to none and I know that there  are many girls in this sport but there is no one like me.  3 1/2 years seems like it might be a long way off but I know I will be playing this sport after high school to help me with my education.   The question is will I be playing for your team or beating your team?
