Jade Ward '22 Recruiting Profile

I am currently a senior playing at Felix Varela Senior high school in Miami Florida. I have been playing volleyball since 6th grade and have fallen in love with the sport.  I have played volleyball all four years at my high school and I am currently on the varsity team.  I have been 100% dedicated to my sport both at school and my club team.  I am the epitome of a team player.  I have been able to manage my academics and sports successfully.  I consider myself to be a healthy combination of sporty and academic!  I am very passionate about playing volleyball at the college level and playing the position of the setter. I give 100% every time I hit the court.  I know that specific to the skill of setting, it’s essential for all setters and particularly undersized setters, like myself, to understand their hitters’ needs. For instance, the location of an ideal “go” set for one hitter might be quite different than it is for another hitter.  As a volleyball player and part of a team,  I always try to lead by example. I am a player who is always on time, gives 100% effort, encourages others, and has a positive mentality that will always add value to any team.   I have a positive outlook and often lead my team when it comes to team spirit.  I hope to be able to take my volleyball career to the next level in the future.  I am willing to work hard, practice smart, and continue to work on being the best volleyball player I can be.  I often reflect on how I can take my skills to the next level and have come to the realization that in order to succeed in a competitive sport like volleyball, and especially in my current position as a setter, I have to have a growth mindset and never settle for good enough.
