Playing beach volleyball for the first time during the fall of my junior year has been the highlight of my high school career. As a strictly indoor player up until that point, it pushed me in ways I had never been pushed in this sport. This was also the year that I grew the most because I did not play high school volleyball. I coached middle school girls instead. Coaching helped me analyze my own skills and what I needed to fix to make myself a better player and a more effective coach. By observing and studying the mistakes of my girls, I was able to understand the mechanics of what they were doing wrong. This helped me improve their game and develop my own skills in the process.
Playing volleyball year-round, coaching volleyball, and being very involved in my school and community have brought some challenges at times, but I have been able to balance this while maintaining a high GPA in the Honors Academy at my school. This has helped me learn the value of hard work, leadership, sacrifice, and teamwork. I am looking for a program that will fit me academically while allowing me to continue to pursue volleyball and serve my community. As a five-time captain (two at the middle school level), I believe that I have the work ethic, coachability, and leadership skills to compete on a college team.
