Personal Statement
I am Marilide, I have been playing volleyball since I was 6 years old. Studying in the US has always been my dream and now that I have just turned 18, it is time to make this dream come true. I live in the old, beautiful Italy, with my parents, my older sister and my grandmother, but I want to do something special in my life.
I realized that volleyball was a big part of my life when I won the National School Championships during the second year of Middle school. It was an incredible experience that helped me to understand how important this sport is for me and pushed me to work harder and concentrate to reach other great achievements (such as winning the Regional Championships in 2012 that permitted me to get to place tenth in the National Championship with the club - Under 16 category).
Though, I also know that there is something even more important then volleyball: school. During my adolescence I understood that studying is the first step to be a good athlete and to become a better person, this is why I have learned to be organized, splitting up my time between volleyball practices and study, to compete at a high level in class and on the court.
Why should you be interested in me, when there are thousands of other girls in your country with my same aim? As you can notice, I am very ambitious and I want the best for me and for the people around me. Moreover I come from another reality: Italy is completely different from the US and this makes me open-minded. I give the best in all that I do and I might be a precious help both for the team and the University, bringing my Italian experience to you. I also always see the positive side in everything and I am always with a smile on my face.
