Personal Statement
My name is Ashley and I'm about to enter my senior year of high school. I started playing volleyball in 6th grade when I first started I felt intimidated as I was 5'2 and a rookie compared to the other girls. When I made the team I knew I needed to work and train hard. I trained almost everyday with my father who is an athletic trainer. We worked on my all around game to ensure that no matter what position whether it be setter, libero, or even right side that I would be able to play that position to the best of my ability with consistency. By the time I got to 8th grade I was starting on the high school JV team as setter even though I felt like I finally made it in volleyball I still continued to work on my game because there is always room to improve. During my sophomore year I suffered from an autoimmune disorder Gillian Barre Syndrome and lost my ability to walk for a few months. Thinking about getting back onto the volleyball court and back with my team kept my going and trying my hardest in physiotherapy. After a couple months I bounced back and helped my team to get 3rd place in the Asia Pacific Athletic Conference. My junior year I won season MVP and continue to train off season to ensure that for my team I am the best setter I can be for my final year of high school volleyball.
