Personal Statement
My name is Berra Selin Söyler and I'm from Bursa, Turkey. I'm class of 2023 and I'm a 5'11 setter. I have been playing volleyball since 2013. I was selected for the volleyball audition held in elementary school and started volleyball in the third grade at Nilüfer Belediye SC. My first year was spent playing more games, but then the selection of players for the team began. The qualifying process was going on and I worked hard every time not to be eliminated and to get to the top team. As a result, I became one of the 2 selected people. In the first matches I participated in, we became Bursa Champions and reached the Turkish finals. In the Turkish Finals, we finished third place. After this success, I realized that volleyball will have a very big place in my life.
Sport has taught me a lot in my life. Especially my teammates. I have learned that I have not been on my own for any part of my life and that I have a huge family with my teammates by my side. Success is very important to me. Volleyball played a role in bringing me achievements in my life. I learned to plan with volleyball. But most importantly, volleyball has taught me that I am very strong and I should never give up. I had a hard time, especially in the eighth grade. In Turkey, at the end of the eighth grade, you take an exam and this exam determines your high school. At the same time, there is also a volleyball tournament in the eighth grade. In this tournament, athletes of the best teams from all over Turkey are selected. I also participated in this tournament by being selected as the best setter in Bursa. It has been very difficult for me to play in this team, to play in the club team, to play in the school team and to prepare for the exam. But I was able to cope with these difficulties. I successfully completed my high school exam and was eligible for a 100% athlete scholarship from TED Bursa College. I am studying at an international school, I am an IB student, and I am getting an AP Math Calculus. I couldn't have had these opportunities at another school, my school has a lot of value to me.
My most unique characteristic may be that I always want to make the best of everything. I like to act coldly in difficult situations and calm people around me, I think I have adjusted to crisis management well. I don't like the phrase 'I wish I had done this before' during a problem. Therefore, I take precautions in advance for any problems I will encounter.
It is very important for me to succeed academically and in terms of sports. The USA offers the best chance to succeed in both my academic and my sports career.
thank you for your time
