Personal Statement
Volleyball is not just a sport I play, it's a part of my life. I started playing when I was six years old, and I haven't stopped growing as a player since. By the age of 12, I became the starting setter of both my high school team and my club team (U15). Even though I believe my game is at a good level right now, I think I haven't realized yet my full potential as a player and I can become even better with the appropriate coaching and guidance.
The last two seasons were the most successful ones yet for me. To begin with, In 2013, I was chosen to participate in the national Juniors Volleyball Team of Cyprus. In the same year, my club team finished third in the U15 Pancyprian Championship, and my high school team, of which I was the captain, won the first place in the U15 Pancyprian Schools Championship.
In 2014 my high school team U18 won the first place in the Pancyprian School Championship. We represented Cyprus in the Panhellenic School Championship in Athens and we took the third place. In April 2014, we represented Cyprus in the ISF World Schools Volleyball Championship in Portugal and we took the 19th place. In all matches I was the starting setter.
Also, last summer I participated in four Pancyprian beach volleyball tournaments and with my partner we won three of them. In July I participated in the Beach Volleyball U21 World Championships in Larnaca, Cyprus. In May I became a member of the Cyprus National Women’s Team.
However, My dedication to volleyball has never stopped me from maintaining high academic standards. Last year my G.P.A was 99.64% . I was also voted as the president of my class for two years and my teachers usually give me the lead in organizing various activities with my classmates because they know that I carry through successfully my responsibilities.
If I am given the opportunity to play for a team in the USA, I can become a first rate player and give back to my team my best. I’m focused, hard working, coachable and dedicated. In the USA there is an ideal combination of higher education and volleyball in the elitist level, so I can’t even imagine what experiences I will gain if I get to come.
